The kids program is designed around making the classes fun but at the same time a wealth of knowledge is shared with the student. That's why at Pure Land Jiu Jitsu Academy we use games and fun drills to help kids learn Jiu Jitsu safety and quickly. We also have shorter classes for kids so that they are not overwhelmed with information. Lastly, we teach discipline, dedication, and respect to all of our young students. Below is a breakdown of the kids programs.

Adult Jiu Jitsu Program
At Pure Land Jiu Jitsu Academy, we take an objective approach to how students learn Jiu Jitsu techniques. It is our job to make sure that the student understands every aspect of a technique before applying it to someone that is fully resisting. The Mastery Modules System™ allows students to quickly learn the principles and techniques used in both the standing and ground phases of Jiu Jitsu by exposing students to detail analysis of the technique being learned. With the Mastery Modules System™, the complex culture and techniques of Jiu Jitsu can be reinforced week after week because each mastery modules builds on the principles and techniques of the one before it. For example, in mastery module 1 students learn how to control and sweep opponents for the close guard. However, in mastery module 1a students learn how to protect themselves against being swept and how to escape the close guard. When mastery module 1a is learned, students get to apply the control and sweeping techniques that were learned in mastery module 1 while dealing with students that have learn how to break the controls and escape the close guard. Therefore, the student gets 12 hours of close guard training in this mastery module. The last thing about the Mastery Modules System™ is that the student rank is directly tied to the completion of the modules. For example, once a student has completed all 48 modules in the white curriculum that student is ready to be promoted to blue belt. This simplifies the promotion process for all ranks and at the same time the student is fully aware of what it takes to get that next promotion.
The combination of Judo and Jiu Jitsu is the perfect self-defence system for women. When applied correctly, the techniques being used employs leverage and timing not strength or speed. This means that, regardless of age or athletic ability, any one applying Judo or Jiu Jitsu techniques on a stronger much large opponent and be successful in defending one’s self. The Women’s Safeguard Programme™ is a programme for women’s self defence base around the principles and philosophies of both Judo and Jiu Jitsu. In this 20 lesson programme, we teach you how to neutralise and control the most common street attacks that law enforcement officials and survivors of sexual assault have helped us to identify. These techniques range from hair grabbing to being threaten by a weapon on the ground. Each 1.5 hour lesson is grouped into 4 blocks with 5 lessons in each block in which the student is exposed to every aspect of real self defence. You can start the programme at any time and do not need any previous experience to learn the techniques that are taught in any of the block lessons. Once the student has all 4 block in the Women’s Safeguard Programme™, that student is eligible test for the VAW Belt (Violence against Women Belt).
How do we step you through our programme?
We have divided the Women’s Safeguard Programme™ 20 lessons into 4 blocks with 5 lessons per block. Each block is totally independent of the other block which allows each student to complete each lesson at their own pace. We have designed each lesson cover a vital aspect of real world street fighting defence, and any of the lessons learned can be immediately applied in a street fighting defence scenario by student. Upon enrolling into the Women’s Safeguard Programme™, the student can track and keep up with the lessons she has covered and lessons left to go using our app at no additional charge to the student.
How do we train you to be able to quickly recall and employ the right defence within seconds?
In the Women’s Safeguard Programme™, we take the time to teach our students how to development their reflexes using our ART Cuing System™. ART stands for awareness response tactics. We employ the ART Cuing System™ in each training block which allows the student to address the most common mistakes they make under pressure.
What the end goal of the programme?
Once the student complete each training block, the student become eligible to take the VAW belt exam. During this 20 minutes exam, we will assess your execution of all 20 lessons in a real world simulation with the instructors posing as assailant. When the student has passes the exam with an 85% or higher, the student will be awarded the VAW belt. As a VAW belt, the student can continue learning and refining their street defence techniques by completing 8 advance blocks. Every 2 advance blocks completed will earn the student on their belt for a total of 4 stripes that could be earned by the student. Once the student has completed all 8 advance blocks, the student is eligible to take the blue belt examination. The goal for this programme is to graduate as many ladies as possible to blue belt and beyond in Jiu Jitsu. We are confident that with the knowledge of a blue belt or higher any lady that has gone through this programme can defence herself in a real world street fighting defence scenario.
At Pure Land Jiu Jitsu Academy, we teach your child to use verbal assertiveness to deter bullies and several non-violent self-defense techniques to stay safe if physically assaulted. Importantly, we don’t teach how to punch or kick, since this often does more harm than good. Instead, we use leverage-based control holds to neutralize threats without violence. Numerous school districts have embraced the defensive nature of the Jiu Jitsu techniques as a reasonable, nonviolent response to bullying and some even host Jiu Jitsu classes on campus! The bottom line is: we will prepare your child to defend themselves against bullies without turning them into one. If you’re interested in instilling your child with unshakable confidence while reinforcing positive values and good character, the Pure Land Jiu Jitsu Academy’s Anti-Bullying Programme is for you. Even if your child has previously tried Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and had a negative experience, we can assure you that they will absolutely love our Anti- Bullying programme.
Studies suggest that bullying may be the leading cause of low self-esteem in children, and according to some surveys, less than 15% of kids actually report acts of bullying. A child’s inability to stand up to a bully is rooted in profound fear for their personal safety. Ironically, the victims know that they must confront the bully and would like nothing more than to stand up to them. But, they simply can't follow through for fear of the physical harm that backs the bully's every action. And, therein lies the challenge – how do you instill in a victim of bullying the confidence to face the tormentor, look them in the eye, and back them down? The answer is simple – teach the victims to defend themselves against physical attack, and the rest will follow.
Fighting Fire with Water
Most martial arts programs rely on striking the attacker with violent punches, kicks, knees, and elbows, but in the Pure Land Anti- Bullying Programme, we take a different approach. All the techniques are purely defensive and utilize no strikes. Furthermore, we teach children how to defuse confrontations with words and never to initiate physical aggression. If attacked, we offer techniques to non-violently neutralize the threat and gain control until help arrives. In our programme, we teach the children how to fight fire with water so that you never have to worry about your child becoming a bully under our guidance.
The Pure Land Jiu Jitsu Anti-Bullying Programme, we prepares your child using a three-pronged approach:
Increased Awareness: Harassment comes in many forms. Sometimes, a victim doesn’t take a stand because they can’t differentiate between “joking” and “bullying.” We teach your child to differentiate between harmless play and harmful harassment so they know precisely when and how to act in each circumstance.
Unshakable Confidence: A confident child is a bully proof child. Bullies seek “easy targets” – those who will tolerate their abuse. We arm your child with the tools needed to overcome physical, verbal, and psychological harassment, so they are so confident in themselves that no bully will try to harass them.
Total Responsibility: We prepare your child to deal with bullies without turning them into one. We emphasize discipline, responsibility, and respect throughout the course, and teach five “Rules of Engagement” to ensure they never abuse their power.
The Rules of Engagement Teaching a child jiu jitsu without teaching them when to use it, is akin to giving someone a gun without teaching them how to use it. Pure Land Jiu Jitsu Academy’s Anti-Bullying Programme is the only kid’s jiu-jitsu program that actually teaches children precisely when they can, and cannot, use the techniques they are learning. The five "Rules of Engagement" are regularly rehearsed in class so that children will never abuse their power and, equally important, they will not hesitate to take a stand when abused by bullies.
Rule 1: Avoid the fight at all costs. Rule 2: If physically attacked, defend yourself. Rule 3: If verbally attacked, follow the Three T-steps (talk, tell, tackle). Rule 4: Never punch or kick the bully, establish control and negotiate. Rule 5: When applying submissions use minimal force and negotiate.
Although we discuss the Rules of Engagement in our classes, we strongly encourage you to discuss the Rules at home to assure your child that they have your support in the event that they need to take a stand against bullying.
Verbal Jiu-Jitsu Training One of the most pervasive and damaging forms of bullying is verbal harassment. Our programme is the only kids' jiu-jitsu program that makes Verbal Assertiveness Training, or as we like to call it "Verbal Jiu-Jitsu," part of its regular curriculum. We've devised a series of role-playing exercises to teach kids how to identify and manage the common threats associated with verbal harassment and relational bullying. Our students learn how to differentiate between "bullying" and "joking," and not only are kids taught how to speak assertively when necessary, but they also learn how to use direct eye contact and confident posture to deter bullies from targeting them.
Perfect Programs for Every Age Nearly all jiu-jitsu schools have all of their youth students bunched into one class, and a few schools have classes separated by age group. Pure Land Jiu Jitsu Anti-Bullying Programme is one of the only youth jiu-jitsu programs that separates kids by age AND experience level, so that every child gets the perfect balance of fun and challenge in their weekly classes. All kids begin in super-playful entry level programs for their age group, and as soon as a child reaches a certain level of maturity, they are promoted to the next training program.
Pure Land Jiu Jitsu Academy’s Judo programme is second to none when it comes to teaching the most effective ways for getting into throws and executing an effective throwing systems. We systematically break down every throw into its 3 basic phases: gripping, movement, and execution so that the student is fully aware of all aspects of a particular throw a student wishes to employ. It is worth noting, though, that judo practice is mentally and physically demanding and requires a high level of commitment and dedication. It can be stimulating, challenging, fun, exhausting, and, to be honest, at times frustrating. Most students’ skill development is cyclical, consisting of periods of great improvement followed by plateaus. The self-discipline of consistent practice is important, regardless of where you are in the cycle, as well as the development of your “fighting spirit” (the literal meaning of ‘tohkon’). Your long-term success will depend, more than anything else, on the ability to work through the roadblocks you will encounter, through your own effort and the assistance of your instructor. So whether your interest is self-defense, conditioning, competition, social interaction, or all of the above, this class will provide you with the highest level of Judo training available in Arkansas.
